Museum of the Bible Explores the Mystery of the Shroud of Turin
Washington D.C., January 20, 2020 – Few artifacts in the world have stirred the imagination and provoked controversy as much as the Shroud of Turin. On January 18, Museum of the Bible hosted a panel symposium with renowed Shroud specialists discussing the latest scientific evidence about this intriquing artifact.
The Shroud of Turin has sparked mystery and fascination — and controversy — for centuries. Millions believe it to be the actual burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth, while others claim it to be a forgery.
“Few items in existence today connect so closely to the biblical depictions of Jesus’ death,” says Dr. Jeff Kloha, chief curatorial officer at Museum of the Bible. “The Shroud is an example of the enduring impact of and interest in the New Testament’s description of Jesus’ crucifixion.”
Research on the Shroud continues. This panel discussion brought together scientists, academics and theologians worldwide; from Rome, France and the United States. These experts are all involved in the ongoing study of this artifact, including a new analysis of test results. Attendees of the event received an exclusive opportunity to interview the panelists, moderator and guest speaker to learn even more about this object of faith. The experts and participants involved in this event included Tristan Casabianca, Father Andrew Dalton, Father Robert Spitzer and Dr. Cheryl White. The special guest was Ray Downing, Emmy Award-winning 3-D computer graphics animator featured in the History Channel’s documentary “The Real Face of Jesus?” The panel was moderated by Russ Breault. A ticketed reception followed, which featured rare items on loan from the The Museum of the Holy Shroud in Shreveport, LA.
