Commencement 2017: Vice President Mike Pence

In this year’s commencement season, Vice President Mike Pence urged the 606 graduates of Pennsylvania’s Grove City College to leave with a responsibility to lead, citing Luke 12:48: “But as the Bible says, to whom much is given, much will be required,” and reminding graduates that in 1876, Grove City College was founded to preserve the freedom fought courageously for in the years of the Civil War—in a program of “intellectual, moral, and spiritual education.”

In his closing remarks, Pence called the students to fearless leadership: “Be men and women of integrity with a servant’s heart, expect opposition and persevere, and lastly have faith.” And quoting from Jeremiah 29:11: "He knows the plans he has for you—plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
