Vince Lombardi: Bible Verse on a Championship Ring

Legendary Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi wasn’t the first to use the familiar quote, but he certainly was responsible for it becoming an iconic part of the American sports lexicon!

In nine seasons, Lombardi led the Packers to an 89-29 record and five NFL Championships, including Super Bowl I and II!

When Green Bay won Super Bowl II, Lombardi had the words, “Run to Win,” engraved on his championship rings—a reference to the Bible verse in 1 Corinthians 9:24: "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.”

Engage with the Bible—in its influence in every aspect of life!
