On January 6, 1942 Franklin Delano Roosevelt , 32nd President of the United States addressed the nation—his first State of the Union speech after the attack on Pearl Harbor and the declaration of war: ”We are fighting today for security, for progress, and for peace, not only for ourselves but for all men. . .”

And quoting from Genesis 1:26, Roosevelt concluded by saying, “We are inspired by a faith that goes back through all the years to the first chapter of the Book of Genesis: ‘God created man in His own image’. . ."
