You may know that Henri Dunant founded the Red Cross, but did you know he was also inspired by the Bible to found the Geneva chapter of the YMCA and helped create the World Alliance of YMCAs?

If that wasn’t enough, he was a key figure in the creation of the Geneva Convention, which outlines international law for warfare, including treatment of prisoners of war. Dunant faced many financial difficulties and was homeless for a time. He and his contributions had been largely forgotten until a journalist revealed that Dunant was not dead, but living in obscurity.
