The Most Unusual and Needed Gospel Commentary

April 24, 2019, at 6:30 p.m.

Join Dr. Amy-Jill Levine and Dr. Ben Witherington in conversation about their new book, a commentary on the Gospel of Luke. Hear personal stories from the time they spent writing this unique Jewish and Christian commentary on a “Christian Gospel of a Jewish prophet,” including lessons learned, controversial points, unanswered questions and opportunities ahead. The evening will include a time for audience questions and a book signing.

Celebrate the Torah at Museum of the Bible

April 2019

Museum of the Bible and 929 celebrated the 929 global online Tanakh study project as it reached the completion of the study of the Torah in its cycle. Concurrent programs were held in the museum throughout the day, followed by a conversation with Dr. Robert Alter, University of California at Berkley, and Dr. Adele Berlin, professor emerita, University of Maryland.

Jerusalem and Rome Special Speaker Series

March and April 2019

This special two-part speaker series brought together top scholars from different fields to dive deeper into some of the themes of the Jerusalem and Rome: Cultures in Context in the First Century CE, an exhibiton from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem now on display at Museum of the Bible. The event focused on the forces unleashed during and after the Great Jewish Revolt and explores how the revolt influenced early Judaism and Christianity.

Christians have struggled for religious freedom from the early days of the Christian movement through the seventeenth century. Guests heard Dr. Robert Wilken and a distinguished slate of religious freedom experts discuss his book, Liberty in the Things of God, and how the origins of religious freedom and liberty of conscience are religious, not political.
