Washington, D.C., March 7, 2025 - Museum of the Bible on Friday announced the opening of the “C. S. Lewis and the Myth That Became Fact” exhibit as part of its “Personal Stories” series showing the impact of the Bible on the lives of historical figures.
The exhibit features letters, manuscripts, books, and other personal effects of C. S. Lewis, revealing his spiritual and intellectual journey from atheism to belief in Christ.
“We are excited for people to see this extraordinary exhibit because it highlights the transformative power of the narrative of the Bible on the life and work of the beloved author of the Narnia series and one of the most famous Christians of the 20th century,” said Dr. Bobby Duke, chief curatorial officer at Museum of the Bible.
“C. S. Lewis once saw the story of life, death, and resurrection of Christ as a myth, but he later grew to believe it as ‘the true myth.’ These biblical stories thoroughly influenced his scholarship and art that is read and revered by millions. Our exhibit features references to his time with other great writers like J. R. R. Tolkien and Charles Williams and shows the enduring impact of the Bible on literature.”
The exhibit includes first editions of many of Lewis’ works, including “The Chronicles of Narnia”; the original, annotated manuscript of Lewis’ 1939 Oxford address, “Learning in War-time”; four of Pauline Baynes’ original illustrations for Lewis’ work “Prince Caspian”; and the typewriter used by Lewis’ brother, Warren, his secretary, to compose thousands of letters to correspondents around the world.
Lending partners for this exhibit include the C. S. Lewis Foundation, Marion E. Wade Center at Wheaton College, Azusa Pacific University, and Lanier Theological Library. “C. S. Lewis and the Myth That Became Fact” is included with admission to the museum and is located on the second floor as part of the “Impact of the Bible” gallery.
The exhibit takes place as Museum of the Bible’s World Stage Theater presents the national premiere tour of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” sponsored by Compassion International. The production by the Logos Theatre is running from February 21-April 19, with tickets ranging from $35-$85. For tickets, those interested may visit the event site.
