By The Hand Kids Clubs of Chicago Battle it Out in Bible Bowl for a Trip to Washington D.C.
Students from four Chicago Clubs Have Been Studying Museum of the Bible Tablet-based Curriculum in Preparation for Competition
CHICAGO— “Babylon is what modern day place?”
“How many people does the Bible mention by name?”
Those are the types of questions that 40 students from four By The Hand Club For Kids centers will be trying to answer in the first ever Bible Bowl to be held on the west side of Chicago May 5.
Since September, students have been studying for the Bible Bowl with new curriculum from Museum of the Bible. The winning team will get a trip to see the nation’s capitol and visit Museum of the Bible, which opens in November.
“We are very excited to partner with Museum of the Bible, which has provided this very relevant and engaging curriculum and they will be on-site to film the competition,” said Donnita Travis, founder and executive director of By The Hand.
“Getting to know the Bible gives us tremendous insight into history as well as providing answers to life’s most challenging issues.”
Museum of the Bible selected By The Hand Club as the first inner-city program to pilot its unique, cutting-edge curriculum on the history, narrative and impact of the Bible that students can access on iPads and computers. “It’s been a difference-maker in getting our students engaged in the content and impact of the Bible and what it can mean in their own lives,” Ms. Travis said.
“The Chicago pilot was the perfect place to showcase Museum of the Bible’s innovative new curriculum due to the consummate professionalism of By The Hand staff and teachers, their genuine concern for student learning and development, and the students themselves who welcomed us and embraced our technology and subject matter,” said Jerry Pattengale, executive director of education for Museum of the Bible.
The Bible Bowl will begin at 7 p.m., May 5, at the club’s Austin site, 415 N. Laramie Ave., Chicago.
(FYI, the ancient area of Babylon is modern-day Iraq and the Bible mentions more than 3,200 people by name.)
