Easter Sunday, March 20
The Resurrection, John Weik
Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus (Matthew 28:1–10 // Mark 16:1–8 // Luke 24:1–11). Mary Magdalene is the only person mentioned in all four Gospels to be present at the empty tomb, but other women are included in the Synoptic Gospels. For this reason, Mary Magdalene has sometimes been called “the apostle to the apostles.”
Today the Christian world celebrates Jesus’s conquering of death and his resurrection, which gives hope for eternal life. On this day, the priest’s vestments are white to represent joy, innocence, purity, and glory. This is the end of Holy Week and the beginning of the Easter season, which will last 50 days, until Pentecost Sunday.
Happy Easter!
