Overview

From the dawn of humanity, stories have shaped who we are. They connect us, teach us, and reveal what it means to truly live. Among these stories, one stands above the rest—the Bible. More than words on a page, it is a living, breathing narrative that has shaped history, transformed lives, and continues to inspire generations.

At Museum of the Bible, we are committed to sharing this story with the world. Every day, thousands of visitors from across the globe step through our doors, encountering the Bible in ways that educate, inspire, and challenge them. Through dynamic exhibits, immersive experiences, and momentous artifacts, we elevate Scripture's message, unleashing its power to shape lives and build upon its lasting legacy.

Because of you, the story lives on.

This past year was record-breaking. We witnessed unprecedented attendance, expanded our reach, and deepened our impact. But more importantly, we saw lives transformed—students engaging with biblical history, scholars uncovering new insights, and individuals deepening their faith.

Record-Breaking Reach,
Lasting Impact

This year, we welcomed our 3 millionth visitor through the doors of Museum of the Bible. "It's moving seeing Scripture come to life," described Madison, visiting the museum for the first time. Each visitor leaves with a deeper appreciation of the Bible's unmatched power to transform lives—both globally and in the details of their own story.

From Billy Graham's Canvas Cathedral to The Megiddo Mosaic, we showcased faith-filled history in groundbreaking ways. Offering free admission on the last Tuesday of each month, we welcomed 14,236 visitors, increasing accessibility and contributing to a total of 453,000 admissions in 2024. Visitors from 36 countries experienced the transformative power of the Bible. "I'm going to talk about this for years," said Juan. "It's so beautiful. We are already planning our next trip to come back here."

IT'S MOVING to SEE SCRIPTURE COME to LIFE.

Billy Graham's Canvas Cathedral

A Legacy of Faith & Fire

In an era defined by uncertainty and fear, Billy Graham ignited a cultural movement rooted in rediscovering the timeless truth of Scripture. This year, Museum of the Bible transported visitors to the "canvas cathedrals" of the late 1940s, where Graham boldly proclaimed 2 Timothy 1:7:

"FOR GOD HAS NOT GIVEN US A SPIRIT OF FEAR, BUT OF POWER AND LOVE AND A SOUND MIND."

From tents in Los Angeles to the world's largest stadiums, Graham's unwavering message transcended borders and languages, reaching laymen, politicians, and royalty alike. This powerful exhibition reminded visitors how one man, rooted in Scripture alone, could inspire millions to embrace faith over fear and cling to biblical truth in times of crisis.

THE MEGIDDO MOSAIC

The Oldest Christian Worship Site Unearthed

One of the earliest physical pieces of evidence of belief in Jesus as God made its US debut in the heart of Washington, DC: the Megiddo Mosaic. The breathtaking, 581-square-foot relic, conserved by the Israel Antiquities Authority, offers a rare glimpse into a Christian community that thrived 1,800 years ago—before Christianity was legally recognized in the Roman Empire.

"SEEING THE EARLIEST FOUND CHRISTIAN CHURCH PROCLAIMING JESUS CHRIST AS GOD WAS TRULY AN UNFORGETTABLE BLESSING. IT BROUGHT ME AND MY HUSBAND TO TEARS."

Discovered in 2005 beneath a Megiddo prison floor by an inmate, the mosaic bears the rare inscription: "to God Jesus Christ." Visitors were transported to ancient Judea, where a Roman centurion, an artist, and five remarkable women came together to create a worship space dedicated "to God Jesus Christ." At its center was a table, likely used for the Eucharist, surrounded by intricate mosaics filled with powerful Christian symbolism.

The museum welcomed 62,222 attendees this past year to experience this extraordinary artifact. "The Megiddo Mosaic was the highlight of our entire DC trip," one visitor shared.

The mosaic's inscriptions tell the story of its creators: Gaianus, the centurion who funded the project; Akeptous, the "God-loving" woman who offered the table; and Brutius, the skilled artisan behind the vibrant fish medallion—one of the earliest Christian symbols. Through its geometric precision and sacred inscriptions, the Megiddo Mosaic speaks of eternity, unity, and devotion, centering attention on the table—a place of shared worship.

All Creation Sings expands the concept of worship beyond traditional weekly worship time, transforming it into a full-bodied experience woven into the fabric of nature.

A Testament of Survival

The Afghan Liturgical Quire's Journey

Dating to around AD 700, the Afghan Liturgical Quire is the earliest uncovered intact Hebrew book—a sacred text that tells a story of survival, discovery, and connection. This codex journeyed across 1,300 years, crossing borders, regions, and cultural divides before arriving at Museum of the Bible.

A seven-year international research project ensured its preservation through a groundbreaking approach to heritage rights. Beyond an artifact, this text reflects a pivotal moment in Jewish engagement with Scripture, allowing individuals to carry, meditate on, and pass down their sacred writings for generations.

Having survived wars, migrations, and centuries of neglect, the Afghan Liturgical Quire stands as a testament to the shared stewardship of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities who worked together to protect it. Now resting in the museum, it symbolizes the enduring power of Scripture to unite and inspire across time.

As one passage within its ancient pages states:

"YOU HAVE CAPTURED MY HEART AND WILL BE SAFELY PROTECTED."
Ancient Text, New Horizons

Unlocking Scripture for the Digital Age

In addition to showcasing these remarkable artifacts, the museum expanded its digital initiatives. This year, our Digital Imaging Lab successfully digitized 138 objects and 32,452 images, including the Jim Elliot Bible and Corrie ten Boom Bible.

The museum also fully digitized and uploaded the famed Bomberg Talmud to the Collections website, making this historic text more accessible to scholars and the public than ever before.

With each milestone, Museum of the Bible continues to illuminate, educate, and inspire—ensuring a vibrant legacy of Scripture engagement for generations to come.

Lasting Gifts

The Donors Who Shape Our Mission

David DuBois

For David DuBois, supporting Museum of the Bible is an extension of his faith. "This is another way to support God's plan for humankind," says David. "It's like giving to my church."

As the comptroller overseeing the museum's finances, David has a unique perspective on how donor contributions are put to use. "I get to see how every dollar is invested in advancing the mission, which makes giving even more meaningful."

"I OFTEN SAY, YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THAT ONE PERSON IS GOING TO FIND GOD. THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN AWAY FROM THE CHURCH FOR A WHILE, OR PERHAPS THEY HAVE NEVER HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENCOUNTER THE BIBLE.

THEY MAY COME, AND WHEN THEY SEE SOMETHING, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT IMPACT IT WILL HAVE —THAT IS WHAT WE TRUST IN."

For David, supporting Museum of the Bible isn't just about giving—it's about being part of something bigger. As he brought his entire family to the museum this spring, he was excited to share that experience with them, knowing that its impact extends far beyond its walls.

Ron & Mary Beshear

Ron and Mary's journey with Museum of the Bible began in July 2016 when they took a hard hat tour just as the museum broke ground. "The skylight was just kind of breathtaking," says Ron. "So close to the National Mall, just blocks from the Capitol—we made a contribution that day."

"THE MISSION OF MUSEUM OF THE BIBLE IS WAY MORE THAN A MUSEUM. IT IS LIVING HISTORY, AND IT'S A MUSEUM THAT HAS ITS FINGER ON THE LIFE PULSE OF ANYBODY WHO'S LIVING A GODLY WORLDVIEW. IT'S A VERY EXCITING PLACE FOR US."

For Mary, the museum is more than another site in DC to recommend. "It's way more than a museum," she says. "It is living history."

Their passion for the museum's work is rooted in their desire to support something greater than themselves. "We want to give back to something that honors the Lord and promotes the Bible," Mary adds. "Any gift given to Museum of the Bible," adds Mary, "brings the transformative power of the Bible to life." Ron agrees. "It's amazing. It's remarkable. It's transformative. It's compelling. If you want to understand the impact and history of the Bible, this is the gold standard anywhere in the world. We are thankful for the Greens' vision and for everyone who has stepped up to make this possible. We're excited to be involved in this season and for what the future holds."

The Heartbeat of the Bible

The Museum's Dynamic & Integrated Impact

Visitors to Museum of the Bible embark on a journey of discovery, gaining historical and intellectual insights while deepening their understanding of Scripture's enduring influence.

When asked about the greatest commandment, Jesus replied: "Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment." (Mark 12:30 KJV)

Together with you, Museum of the Bible embodies this call to engagement. The Bible's influence extends across cultures, nations, and ideologies, shaping history, inspiring movements, and fostering dialogue.

Museum of the Bible provides a unique platform for visitors to engage with Scripture's profound legacy through five key dimensions:

  • Intellectual discovery
  • Cultural influence
  • Spiritual enrichment
  • Emotional engagement
  • Social dialogue

The Bible is a dynamic force that continues to shape individuals and societies. Museum of the Bible invites visitors to experience its lasting impact in a deeply personal and transformative way.

Dear Friends,

As we reflect on the past year, we are reminded of the incredible journey God has led us on. When our family first stepped into this work, we had no idea how far it would reach—not just in our own lives, but in the lives of so many around the world. And today, as we look at what has been accomplished through Museum of the Bible and the many initiatives we support, one thing is clear: this is all possible because of your partnership and prayers.

Your generosity has helped open the pages of the Bible to millions in ways they've never experienced before.

The Bible makes a bold claim—it is living and active. And when people engage with it, lives change. Thank you for standing with us in this mission. As we look ahead, we do so with gratitude and expectation, knowing that with your continued support, the impact of God's Word at Museum of the Bible will only grow.

Inviting all people,
