The Oldest Copies of the Bible Are Coming to Washington, DC

On November 22, Museum of the Bible, in partnership with the Israel Antiquities Authority and Running Subway, opened Dead Sea Scrolls: The Exhibition. The exhibition features biblical texts and scrolls from the community at Qumran, as well as hundreds of artifacts that reveal details about life and Judaism during the Second Temple period. The scrolls also provide unique insights into the formation of the texts that make up our Bibles today, making them a shared heritage for all “People of the Book.”

*This exhibition was created by the Israel Antiquities Authority from the collections of the National Treasures, in partnership with Running Subway. It was curated by Navit Popovich-Geller, Risa Levitt, and Joe Uziel.

Exhibition HighlightThe Magdala Stone

Found in a first-century synagogue in Magdala, the hometown of Mary Magdalene, the block was likely used for the liturgical reading of the Torah and other sacred scrolls. It features detailed reliefs of the temple and its ritual artifacts, including the earliest-known carving of the temple menorah, and suggests the sculptor had made the pilgrimage to the temple in Jerusalem. These reliefs provide insights into the role of synagogues as sacred spaces prior to the temple's destruction.

Does the exhibition require an additional ticket purchase?

Does my membership give me free access to the exhibition?

If you purchased a membership before January 1, 2026, then you will receive one (1) free ticket per membership. For example, an individual member would receive one (1) ticket; a dual member, two (2) tickets; a family membership, two (2) adult and three (3) youth tickets.
If you purchased a membership on or after January 1, 2026, then you will receive 50% off the number of tickets tied to your memberships for the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibition. For example, an individual member would receive 50% off one exhibition ticket; a dual member, 50% off two exhibition tickets; a family membership, 50% off two adult tickets and tickets for their children.
