In the 1830s, Joseph Smith, the founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, made a new “translation” of the Bible that included significant additions and revisions of the English text of the King James Version. Commonly referred to as the Joseph Smith Translation (JST), the text would more accurately be called an inspired commentary. As Smith read the English text, he made additions and corrections as he felt inspired. The full text was never completed nor published during Smith’s life (Smith was killed in 1844). Smith’s wife, Emma, retained the documents related to the translation and eventually gave them to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (now Community of Christ), who published the text in 1867.

Printed in 1867 by the [Reorganized] Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Plano, Illinois. Acquired by unknown owner, Provo, Utah; Purchased in 2016 at an estate sale by Keister Family LDS Books, Idaho; Purchased in 2016 by Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.
