Engaged Bible Readers

Millennials—the most diverse generation in the history of the U.S.—may also be the most engaged Bible readers in generations. Who knew? In a six-year joint effort by the American Bible Society and a Barna Group study of Bible engagement in the U.S., they discovered that “Christian youth who go to church and care about their faith may know the Bible better than older Christians—reading it multiple times a week, more than any other generation.” No question, new technology has undoubtedly made Bible reading a more popular option in “staying connected” to the Bible. Of Millennials who read the Bible, the survey showed that online reading is up from 37% of all adults in 2011 to 49% in 2016. The percentage using their phones to look for verses or other content more than doubled.
