Babe Ruth - Yankees #3

Babe Ruth, the most celebrated athlete of his time, led the New York Yankees to seven American League championships and four World Series titles! After a long, successful career, his #3 jersey was retired by the Yankees in June of 1948. He died on August 16, with thousands of people lining up outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City to pay their respects to the “King of Swat.”

But did you know that in World War II President Franklin Roosevelt printed a letter in pocket Bibles given to troops to carry with them into battle commending the reading of the Bible? A copy of that Bible was discovered with a signature on the page opposite FDR’s letter, reading: “Babe Ruth 1942.”
