Golf Pro Ben Crane and the Bible

Championship golfer Ben Crane, known for being a slow player, often makes fun of himself—but it can be frustrating for some of his playing partners. At the 2005 Booz Allen Classic in North Carolina, his “quick-paced” partner, Rory Sabbatini, hit his second shot into a pond beyond the green and walked in that direction before Crane played his second shot. Sabbatini chipped his ball onto the green and putted out—leaving Crane behind along with his professional decorum.

When an ABC Sports reporter asked Crane about the incident, he put the blame squarely on himself, recalling the verse from Proverbs 15:1: “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” Crane later said: “every time you apply God’s word to your life, it works out perfect!”
