Mike Jarvis, Florida Atlantic University Head Basketball Coach

In March 2014, Florida Atlantic University fell five points short of advancing in the 2014 Conference USA Basketball Tournament. Head coach Mike Jarvis had already agreed to step down at the end of the season. For Jarvis, the disappointing end to a stellar forty-five year coaching career was a reminder of life’s abrupt changes. Shortly after the end of his final season, this passage from Jeremiah 29:11 caught his attention, “'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

It encouraged Jarvis to write two books for coaches and also find a voice as a college basketball analyst and motivational speaker. He said, “I feel blessed that my plans have been trumped by God’s plans.”
