Leonardo DaVinci

When Leonardo Da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi, which means “Savior of the World,” sold in November 2017 for $450 million, it set a record for any work of art sold at auction! Da Vinci, an Italian Renaissance painter, is one of the most celebrated artists of all time, and one who painted many scenes from the Bible.

One of his most famous paintings, The Last Supper, is a twenty-nine by fifteen-foot fresco of Jesus’s last meal with his disciples before his crucifixion, depicting the moment Jesus says to his disciples that one of them will betray him. The moment is described in the Gospel of John. Da Vinci painted the disciples with emotions ranging from grief and sadness to rage and love.
