Steve McQueen and Billy Graham’s Bible

The car chase in the movie, Bullitt, is one of the most famous scenes in movie history and it’s driver, Steve McQueen, a superstar of the 60’s and 70’s! But as Steve McQueen embraced Christianity he retreated from the Hollywood scene. And began a highly publicized battle with lung cancer.

Scheduling what he hoped would be life-saving surgery, he asked evangelist Billy Graham to visit him. When the two met November 3, 1980, Steve said he wished he had his Bible with him. Billy Graham gave him his well-worn Bible, one he preached from in crusades. In the front he wrote: “To my friend, Steve McQueen. May God bless you and keep you always” Philippians 1:6. Steve McQueen died of a heart attack four days later, clutching the Bible to his chest!
