Christian Creeds

"A creed—a concise formulation of belief--and a rich tradition found throughout the Bible!
An ancient Israelite creed was the Shema of Deuteronomy 6:4-9:

“Hear, O Israel: The lord is our God, the lord alone. You shall love the lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might" (NRSV). Early Christians formed creeds about Jesus.

One is 1 Corinthians 15:3-7 “that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. . .” (NRSV).

An early understanding of Jesus’s life. A creed isn’t meant to replace the Bible—but to give focus to the beliefs found in the Bible!"
