The American Bible Society and the Olympics

The American Bible Society recently celebrated its 200th anniversary. Their mission to “make the Bible available to every person” includes Olympians.
The American Bible Society has made efforts to distribute Bibles to Olympic athletes, workers, and spectators.
They passed out about four million Bibles at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and five million for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, as well as distributing thousands for the Winter Games in 1998 and 2002.
For the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, about 100,000 copies of the Bible, printed in China, were distributed during the games.
Copies of the “Chinese English Four Gospel Portions” also featured the official emblem of the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee.
