The World Series: Jeremy Affeldt/San Francisco Giants

It's the 2012 World Series with the San Francisco Giants in Game 4 against the Detroit Tigers.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Giants middle reliever, Jeremy Affeldt, took the mound with the game tied—staring down three of Detroit’s most lethal hitters. San Francisco won the game and the World Series!

Jeremy Affeldt was one of the most reliable middle reliever pitchers in World Series history. At his retirement ceremony in 2015, he honored two of his teammates, invoking Proverbs 18:24. . . “I believe there are friends closer than brothers. . .”

Not so unusual for a guy on whose forearm tattoo are the words Solus Christus—Latin for “Christ Alone”—words of Jesus in John 14:6: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
