Bono and the Psalms

"U2’s Bono wrote “Gloria” in the 1980’s. . . .and over the years 10 or more other songs with biblical references—many from the Psalms, in Yahweh, Beautiful Day and Grace.

Bono’s admiration for the Bible extends significantly to “The Message,” a version by Eugene Peterson—a version Bono says, “speaks to me in my own language.”

The two met recently in an interview prompted by a video message from Bono to Eugene Peterson, who had never heard of Bono or his music, until receiving a “thank you” video message from the famous musician.

Peterson says he felt Bono, “a companion in the faith.” Both spoke of their introduction to the Psalms as children—with Bono commenting on the “brutally honesty joy, sorrow and confusion that “sets the Psalms apart.”"
