Fourth of July

"For many, 4th of July is a day for back yard bar-b-ques, parades and fireworks. But on July 4, 1776, it was a celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and more!

John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin were chosen as a committee to decide on the official seal!

Adams suggested Hercules, Jefferson proposed two Saxon chiefs.

Benjamin Franklin suggested a scene from the Bible in Exodus 13 and 14: “Moses standing on the Shore, and extending his Hand over the Sea, thereby causing the same to overwhelm Pharoah who is sitting in an open Chariot. . .” . . .accompanied by the motto, “Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God.”

This seal was never made, but the influence of the Bible unmistakable in the messages of early patriots in justifying or condemning revolution!"
