With a Mighty Hand
The Haggadah is one of the most popular texts in Jewish tradition.Hebrew for “telling,” the Haggadah is the guidebook for the Seder, the ceremonial meal of Passover, which commemorates the Israelites’ exodus out of Egypt. The text includes prayers, biblical and rabbinic readings, as well as illustrations. Though the illustrations draw inspiration from the same text, unique and playful elements reveal the joy of the holiday and the individuality of the communities that produced them. At Museum of the Bible, a special exhibition, With a Mighty Hand: The Art and History of the Passover Haggadah, welcomes you to experience this rich tradition through a selection of the most beautifully illuminated Haggadahs from the past 500 years.
