Hail to the Chief: John Quincy Adams, 6th President of the U.S.

Do you know who was the first U.S. President who was the son of a former U.S. President?

The answer is: John Quincy Adams, our 6th President! Son of John Adams, the 2nd President.

From an early age John Quincy Adams was exposed to diplomats and treaty negotiations, attending schools in Europe and graduating from then Harvard College.  A career diplomat—certainly one of his most significant contributions as Secretary of State under President Monroe was negotiating the Monroe Doctrine—establishing with the nations of the world the autonomy of the United States.

And in his 1825 presidential inaugural speech, Adams “quoting Psalm 127:1 said: “I shall look for whatever success may attend my public service; and knowing that “except the Lord keep the city the watchman waketh but in vain. . .”
