A Presidential Month

October is the most prolific month of the year to celebrate the birthdays of US Presidents—John Adams, Rutherford Hayes, Chester Arthur, Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower and Jimmy Carter. A copy of Eisenhower’s personal Bible is on display at Museum of the Bible. John Adams, the first vice president and the second president of the United States, said: “The Bible is the best book in the world. It contains more of my little philosophy than all the libraries I have seen.” Our 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt, often quoted the Bible in his letters and referenced it in speeches and in his published works, while the 39th president, Jimmy Carter, draws hundreds of people to his weekly Bible class in Plains, Georgia.
